About this event

This workshop uses drawing exercises as a tool for building observational skills and attention to the prairie landscape along the Oldman River. Participants will practice noticing patterns and relationships in nature while learning about land stewardship. No drawing experience required. Suitable for ages 14+.

This workshop introduces a series of observation exercises designed to help participants slow down and look closely at the prairie landscape. Rather than focusing on drawing skill or finished artwork, this workshop uses drawing as a tool for attention. Participants will practice noticing patterns, movement, and relationships along the Oldman River. Learning to notice is one of the most accessible ways we can begin participating in land stewardship, because we can’t advocate for landscapes and species we haven’t taken the time to get to know. Through a sequence of guided exercises, we’ll explore ways of recording what we see without worrying about accuracy or perfection. The goal is not to make a “good drawing,” but to build the habit of looking more carefully- a practice you can take with you into your daily life. No drawing experience is required. Feel free to bring your own drawing tools if you have favorites, otherwise materials will be available for everyone to use. 1–3 PM | 14+ welcome | registration required | please dress for the weather hat/ waterbottles/ | $15/person Registration Link to come!
