Thursday June 04, 2026 | 5:30pm - 7pm | Stewarding a Future for Napi’s River and Forests with CPAWS Vital for life on the Alberta Prairie, and beloved by many Albertans, Napi-tahtaa — Napi’s River — is increasingly under strain as a result of overuse and abuse, as well as industrial resource extraction like clearcut logging in the Eastern Slopes and headwaters region. CPAWS Southern Alberta's Conservation Science & Program Manager Josh Killeen will explore the threats facing Napi’s River, the aquatic species-at-risk who call it home, like our native trout, and how we might better steward these sacred lands and waters. Weather permitting, we’ll also take our talk outside, to explore the river valley and celebrate forests, fish, and rivers. Josh (he/him) is a Professional Biologist with a background in environmental consultancy, academia, and wildlife biology. He holds degrees in biology and evolutionary biology from University College London (UK), The University of Groningen (Netherlands), and Université Montpellier 2 (France). He moved from the UK to Alberta in 2014 and soon fell in love with the province, its people, and its wild spaces. Josh believes that effective conservation, protection, and access to our natural spaces must be a priority for our society. Outside of work Josh loves to cook, garden and spend time hiking, scrambling, and climbing in the mountains. 5:45-7:00 PM | Meet Fort Whoop Up | all ages welcome kids to attend with caretakers | registration required | $10 per ticket/ members at no cost | be prepared to walk about 1-2 kms at a slow pace |
